Description: Objectives & Outcomes: Interns will shadow employees to learn to identify the different types of case documents, gain hands on experience interacting with clients & local court personnel, conducting basic legal research, and drafting legal documents. Internship duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
-Going into State & Federal court houses to do name searches for any criminal/civil cases on an individual or company. If results are found, you will gather requested information(case name, case number, nature of the case, parties involved, filing & disposition dates)and compile the information into a report. Upon receiving a request, these searches & reports must be completed within 24-72 hours.
-Retrieving case documents from area court houses, such as pleadings, complaint/indictment, docket sheets and corporate documents From other governmental agencies, such as Good Standing Certificates. These files will then either be hand delivered or scanned into PDF Format and emailed to clients.
-Conducting basic business & legal research and drafting documents such as memos containing research results, case briefs, correspondence, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)Requests.
-Assisting with daily tasks such as answering phones, filing, running errands, and processing client requests for assistance.

Requirements: -Candidates should have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel), email, scanning & faxing, and MUST have easy access to internet & a cell phone.
-ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND A POLISHED APPEARANCE IS A MUST!
-Flexibility, dedication, and a sense of humor are all characteristics/traits necessary to do well in this internship.
-Candidates must have a GPA of 2.5 or better.
-Blackberries, Smartphone, or PDA's with email capability are a plus, but not required.
-Special preference will be given to interns with flexible schedules, who can work Monday through Friday for at least 2-4 hours, or at least 3 days a week for 3-4 hours
