Student Senate

Opportunities for leadership development and meaningful involvement in shaping campus life are available through the Waldorf College Student Senate. All Waldorf students are automatically members of the student senate, which is the chief governing and elected group representing the student body. Comprised of executive officers and senators who are elected by the students, senators represent our diverse student population in the following elected positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Parliamentarian, two freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors, two seniors, two commuters, two At-Large Senators and one International Student Senator. The Student Senate is also served by two advisors from the Student Life Professional Staff.

The purpose of the Student Senate include providing the means for effective student participation in community governance and policy development, campus improvements, developing and interpreting student opinion on issues of interest to students, providing effective student participation in planning and administering student affairs, promoting the welfare of the student body, and acting in advisory capacities to the college administration, campus programming, committees, and other instruments of college governance.

There are three representatives of the Senate selected to serve as advisory members of the College's Board of Regents and students participate in college governance through service on college committees.

The Student Senate meets once a week on Tuesday throughout the semester at 8 p.m. in the Breen Classroom except during college breaks, and conducts two budget funding meetings each semester for recognized student organizations to request funding.

The Senate, along with Student Life, host two "President Roundtables" per semester. This event is an opportunity for representatives from each student organization to gather and discuss upcoming campus events, announcements and dialog about leadership topics.

In April, Senate and Student Life collaborate to sponsor the SEAL Awards. SEAL stands for Students Excelling in Activities and Leadership. This program recognizes students and student organizations for their service, involvement, programs and leadership over the course of the year.

Other traditional events that Student Senate help sponsor include Homecoming, Warrior Cup, WinterFest, Student Services Committee, Campus Hearing Board and forums for student discussion. All Student Senate meetings are open to the Waldorf community and we encourage students to attend.
