Infectious Diseases

Infectious diseases are caused by microscopic organisms that penetrate the body’s natural defense barriers and multiply to create symptoms that can range from mild to deadly. Infectious diseases can be transmitted through sexual contact (STD), bodily fluids (see also Bloodborne Pathogens), coughing, sneezing, or contact with objects touched by an infected person like doorknobs, eating utensils, etc.

If you suspect that you have come in contact with or may actually have an infectious disease:

• If you are on campus - immediately contact the Student Health Services on campus (8157) or the CD on call.
• If you are off campus and believe you may have been exposed, see a medical provider in your area and inform the medical provider that you live on a college campus, if applicable.  Upon medical confirmation of an infectious disease, contact Student Health Services at Waldorf College immediately to notify them of the infectious disease. This information will be used confidentially as per HIPPA regulations to help reduce the risk of exposure to students on campus who may have been in contact with you.
• You may be spreading the disease to others, so attempt to limit spread of the possible disease. Ways to help prevent the spread of an infectious disease is to avoid sexual intercourse/intimacy, limit general contact with others,contain a cough or sneeze with a handkerchief or mask, wash hands often, and ensure clothing, bedding and eating utensils are separated. Information is available from Student Health Services or your medical provider.
