Chemical Spills/Fires
Chemical Spills/Fires
If a Chemical Spill Occurs:
If toxic chemicals contact your skin, immediately flush the affected area with clear water for 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing.
Call 9-911 immediately.
Always err on the side of safety and if there is any possible danger, evacuate the area.
If a Chemical Fire Occurs:
Remain Calm. Call 9-911 immediately.
If the fire is small, you are not exposed to its fumes, and you have received proper training, attempt to put it out with a proper fire extinguisher.
Never allow the fire to come between you and an exit.
Evacuate your area if you are unable to put out the fire. Close doors and windows behind you to confine the fire. Proceed to the nearest exit.
Do not break windows. Oxygen feeds fire. Only break windows as a last resort.
Do not attempt to save possessions at the risk of personal injury.
Do not return to the emergency area until instructed to do so by police or fire department officials.
All chemical spills and fires, no matter how small, should be reported to 9-911.
All Chemical Emergencies Dial: 9-911
