Program Features

We are able to offer substantial creative writing scholarships, up to full tuition in teh case of deserving applicants, and these scholarships are renewable for all four years of study. Scholarships are awarded to students with scholastic achievements and high quality writing ability. Please download the Creative Writing Scholarship Application here.

Students in the program can be active members of the Waldorf Creative Writing Club, which meets twice a month to share writing and to help with planned activities like Open Mic events. Students can also apply to edit and produce Waldorf Literary Review: A Journal of Engaged Writing, the annual campus literary magazine.

In addition to publishing their work in Waldorf Literary Review, students are invited to submit their work to the Salveson Prizes in Poetry and Prose each year. Also students can assist with an annual North Iowa Regional High School Writing Contest sponsored by the Waldorf Creative Writing Program, helping to organize and judge.

Finally, our Distinguished Visiting Writers Series is a unique event designed to offer students a deeper insight into writing. In the past, students have worked with nationally-recognized writers such as Jennifer Kwon Dobbs, Debra Marquart, and Benjamin Percy.
