DESIGNATED COURSES

Completion of three designated courses: one writing (W), one speech (S), and one Global (G). A course that fulfills one of the core requirements may also carry one of these designations. Students must take at least one 'W' course beyond English 101 and 102. A 'W' designation is earned if an emphasis of the course is on academic writing, where instruction in academic writing is provided, and one where students are evaluated on the quality of their writing.

Students must have at least one 'G' course. A 'G' course designation is earned if a primary emphasis of the course is to acquaint students with a non-Western perspective (in, for instance: art, history, literature, language, religion, etc.), and one where students are evaluated in terms of their understanding of the non-Western perspective relative to the course content.

Students must take at least one 'S' course. To qualify for an 'S' designation, an emphasis of the course is an instruction in oral communication, where instruction in oral communication is provided, and where students are evaluated on the quality of their oral communication.
