Franco named Senior Fellow at the Kosovo Public Policy Center

·Franco was recently named Senior Fellow at the Kosovo Public Policy Center.
·He is a newly-appointed board member of the Iowa Sister States Kosovo Committee.
·Franco has been working hard at reestablishing the “Study Abroad” opportunities for sending Waldorf students on study abroad trips. Since late January, he has been able to hold one information session and am sending two students abroad – one to China and the other to Kosovo.
·Franco presented “The Transformative Effect of History Education- Using History Education to Promote Regional Stability and Identity in the Balkans” at the University of South Carolina’s History Association’s Annual Meeting, Columbia, SC on March 15, 2014.
·His paper, “Whose History is it?: Transforming Balkans Regional Identity through Education and Historical Reconciliation,” was read by proxy at the University of Ohio’s Midwest Slavic Studies Conference, March 29, 2014.
·He also has one article, Learning to Research, Researching to Learn: A Method for Teaching Historical Inquiry Through the Use of Television Sit-Coms, pending publication for the Society for History Education journal, The History Teacher, but he won’t hear back from the reviewers until June.
·Two additional articles are in revision for publication,
o   “The Transformative Effect of History Education- Using History Education to Promote Regional Stability and Identity in the Balkans” – This will be published as part of the South Carolina Historical Association’s annual conference proceedings.
o   “Improving Students’ Historical Thinking Through Thematic Projects” – This should be published by the Organization of American Historians.
·He helped judge the Waldorf National History Day Regional competition entries on March 26 and 27.
·He is working with the promoters for the Tree Town Festival in Forest City in some of the logistical coordination and locking in the Iowa Army National Guard’s Memorial Day participation/presence for the event (May 24-25)
