Dr. Larry Hill, Waldorf's director of student teaching and clinical placement, co-facilitated a meeting on Oct. 22, 2013, with Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) consultant JoAnne Tubbs for top education leaders from major Iowa educational organizations around the issue of ethics.

The group was convened by Director of Education Dr. Brad Buck and Director of the Board of Educational Examiners D.J. Magee.  Members present included the executive directors of School Administrators of Iowa, Iowa Association of School Boards, Professional Educators of Iowa, and Iowa State Education Association, as well as a school Superintendent, a college representative, and consultants representing the Department of Education, BOEE, and the Governor’s office.

The focus of the session was on upgrading ethics training in teacher preparation programs, administrator preparation programs, and initial licensure, as well as an expectation for teacher licensure renewal.  Participants will move forward with the initiative and convene a planning group later early in 2014.

Dr. Hill has been an advocate for character education and ethical training for over two decades and has spoken at numerous regional and national conferences and training sessions.  Dr. Hill served as Iowa's Superintendent of the Year in 2005.
