Hero Behind the Hero ScholarshipWaldorf College is proud to announce the winner of the Waldorf Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship, which honors the spouses and children of active-duty public safety personnel (firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs and dispatchers) and military men and women.

Loretta Mueller and Rachel Haynie received online scholarships based on their entries in the Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship essay contest sponsored by Waldorf. The scholarship covers tuition for up to 24 months for one specific degree program.

Mueller, whose husband has served in the fire industry for over 20 years, says that she plans on using the scholarship to advance in her current position at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. She has also seen positive reactions from her daughter after deciding to pursue her degree. “Because I am a student my daughter has become motivated as a sophomore in high school and is actively seeking colleges.”

Haynie, who is the spouse of an active-duty Navy Servicemember, would like to earn her degree in order to break through the ceiling she has hit in her career. After serving in the military herself, and many attempts at college, Haynie recently earned her associate degree in psychology and plans to further her education with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.
