The Waldorf College Theatre Company class is launching their summer tour locally with Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” May 27-June 10. The performances are open to the public. Admission is “pay what you will” with all proceeds to be used for the group’s tour to Alabama and Florida, June 11-16. “The Taming of the Shrew,” is a romantic comedy loaded with humor and deception. To the dismay of Bianca and her many suitors, she cannot get married until her older shrewish sister Katherina finds a husband. All hope is seemingly lost until a gentleman from Verona agrees to attempt to woo her. Enemies quickly become friends and work together to ensure that “Katherina the Cursed” find a husband. Through their hilarious antics, disguises, and deception they try to achieve the impossible, and achieve the unexpected. For these new friends only one question remains: can the untamable be tamed? Supervised by professor of theatre at Waldorf, Jeremy Fiebig, Theatre Company is an engaging class that allows students to get a first-hand perspective of the creation of a production company and the functions of a company leading up to public performance. Waldorf is one of only two colleges in the country to offer a Shakespeare minor.
