Forest City, IowaDr. Kristín Jónína Taylor, Associate Professor of Music at Waldorf College, has been selected by The College Music Society (CMS) to serve as their inaugural ambassador to Iceland.

“I’ve been a member of The College Music Society for a few years,” Taylor said. “They are a wonderful resource for musicians simply because of the connections that music professors can make and the exchanging of ideas within their community.”

CMS identified Taylor’s strong ties to Iceland and her expertise in the nation’s music as a great asset to their program. They are currently increasing their international presence and hope to use Taylor’s knowledge to aid others who may be interested in Icelandic music.

“My interest in Iceland really started with my mother’s heritage,” Taylor said. “When I started thinking about my doctoral research, it became obvious that Icelandic music was the direction to go.”

Her doctoral research on prominent Icelandic composer Jon Nordal led to her first Fulbright grant, which opened several more doors for her research into the nation’s unique music.

“Icelandic music is very hard to describe,” said Taylor. “There is something very smart about their music. They don’t just sing what’s in their heart; they go beyond that. I’m thrilled to share their music and my research through this ambassadorship with The College Music Society.”
