Sheryl Fitzpatrick, chair of the Waldorf College business and economics department and associate professor, received the school’s most prestigious faculty honor—the Board of Trustees Outstanding Faculty Award—at the annual faculty/staff recognition dinner on Friday, April 30.
Board of Trustees member Dr. Jim Pate presented the award to Fitzpatrick, citing the wealth of practical experience she brings to the classroom.
“As an educator and academic advisor to business majors, she enjoys teaching and mentoring students by applying real-world experience in the classroom, and beyond, including planning and leading overseas student trips,” Pate said. “A colleague who went on a trip to Ireland that Sheryl planned said, ‘It was one of the most well-organized, well thought-out, interesting and fun trip that I have ever taken…and I know the students would agree 100 percent!”
Pate also mentioned Fitzpatrick’s active involvement on campus in music, theatre and sporting events, as well as service projects.
“Professor Fitzpatrick is highly respected by her faculty colleagues – one of whom said, ‘Sheryl gives that extra, personal touch that students appreciate; and what makes Waldorf so unique,” he said.
Professor Fitzpatrick earned her MBA from the University of Northern Iowa where she was a graduate assistant and a consultant for 25 small businesses in the areas of accounting system design, profit projection, and planning at the Small Business Development Center. She joined the Waldorf faculty in 1996.
