The Midwest Collegiate Conference announced the All-Conference teams for the 2010 spring seasons. Ten Waldorf College athletes earned conference honors, including six softball team members, three baseball team members, and one member of the women’s golf team. Earning First Team All-Conference honors for softball: Senior left fielder, Laura Read of Stanhope, Iowa; Read had a .366 batting average with 123 at bats, 27 runs, 45 hits, 10 doubles, and 15 RBI’s. Sophomore first baseman, Katie Bredlow of Altoona, Iowa; Bredlow led the Warriors with a .390 batting average, 48 hits, and 13 doubles on the season. She also had three homeruns and 28 RBI’s and is ranked 40th in the nation in double per game. Junior second baseman, Andrea Blanchard of Charles City, Iowa; Blanchard had a .359 batting average this season. With 46 hits, Blanchard had 33 runs, seven doubles, two homeruns, and 17 RBI’s. With four triples, Blanchard is ranked 29th in the nation for triples per game, and 39th overall in the nation in total triples. Junior designated player, Melissa Vance of Charles City, Iowa; Vance led the Warriors in RBI’s, with 31, and home runs, with six. Vance is ranked 50th in the nation in home runs per game. Rachel Hannam, a senior from St. Ansgar, Iowa, and Jennifer McLarney, a junior from Fairfield, Iowa, were named All-Conference Honorable Mentions. Hannam had 32 hits on the season with five doubles, four homeruns, and 15 RBI’s. She also went an impressive 14-14 in stolen bases. McLarney had the second best batting average on the team with .382. With 39 hits, she had 24 runs, five doubles, four homeruns, and 20 RBI’s. The Waldorf baseball team also claimed three individuals in conference honors. Matt Klaus and Jeremy Trach were named All-Conference Honorable Mentions, while Shawn Palmer was named as a Gold Glove. Matt Klaus, a sophomore pitcher from New Carlisle, Ohio, had a 2-4 record with 10 appearances. In 53 innings pitched, Klaus had a 3.57 earned run average giving up only 50 hits, 25 runs, 21 earned, and 17 walks. He had an impressive 58 strikeouts on the season and currently holds four top 40 rankings in the nation, including 23rd in total runs allowed, 33rd in total hits allowed, 34th in batters struck out per 9, and 38th in total earned runs allowed. Jeremy Trach, a senior outfielder from Coquitlam, British Columbia, went .345 on the season. In 139 at bats, Trach had 48 hits, 30 runs, eight doubles, four homeruns, and 29 RBI’s. He also went 8-11 in stolen base attempts. Shawn Palmer, a sophomore shortstop from Rochester, Minnesota, had a .287 batting average. With 43 hits, he had 33 runs, six doubles, two homeruns, and 25 RBI’s. Palmer had 133 assists and only 10 errors on the season for a .952 fielding percentage. He is also ranked 14th in the nation in assists per game (2.891). Although the women’s golf team had low team numbers, the Warriors managed to get one through as an All-Conference Honoree. Mallory Lovik, a senior from Forest City, Iowa, was named an Honorable Mention.
