Director of Student Activities and New Student Orientation

Waldorf College seeks candidates for the position of Director of Student Activities and New Student Orientation. As a member of the Office of Student Life leadership team, the successful candidate will lead in the development of planning, goal setting, and decision-making of a comprehensive student event and orientation/first year experience activities program. The Director will be responsible for creating a campus student activities environment that fosters vibrant involvement and engagement of students in the college community.

This person must have a genuine interest and satisfaction in working directly with students; excellent managerial, supervisory, team-building, and communication skills; ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently; and must enjoy working as part of an energetic & fun Student Life team.

This is a full time, twelve month, salaried and  benefit eligible position. Work hours would vary with a flexible schedule, as this position requires regular work day hours in addition to evening and weekends throughout the year.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • BA in related field required
  • 1-3 years in a college or university setting with experience in student activities, event planning and first year orientation programs preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively with the campus and Forest City communities

Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Waldorf student activities program. This includes advising the S.W.A.T. (Student Warrior Activities Team), administering a campus programming budget, recruiting and coordinating entertainment and social events on and off campus.
  • Organize and plan monthly bus excursions to regional events and the recruitment/management of two speaker events each academic semester.
  • Advise, guide and promote the campus student organizations in the development and execution of their activities and events. Assist with semester organizational roundtables and student leadership/recognition initiatives.
  • Work in conjunction with the Office of Student Life staff members to provide collaborative direction for the activities and events for students with Intramurals, Residence Life, AODA Committee, Student Senate, Health/Counseling Services, International Student Coordinator & Campus Service Projects.
  • Plan and coordinate major campus events such as Homecoming (fall), Family Weekend (spring), bands, fairs and end of the semester De-Stress Days.
  • Serve as the team leader to plan and coordinate the Fall New Student Orientation program, various edutainment speakers, oversee orientation leader recruitment and training. Manage orientation budget. Assist with the Office of Student Life Summer Orientation planning.
  • Assist with First Year Experience course and program
  • Serve as a member of the College Convocation Committee.
  • Oversee campus information desk and student staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
