Assistant Professor of Education

Waldorf College seeks candidates for permanent, full-time Assistant or Associate Professor in its Education Department.   Position requires modeling of exemplary instructional skills in teaching assigned teacher education courses, supervision of practicum students and student teachers in local schools, and commitment to use of technology as part of innovative program delivery. Successful candidates must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, and willing to work closely with traditional and non-traditional students in a small college environment with a commitment to student success.   Candidates must be able to teach courses in two or more of the following areas: Elementary, Reading, Special Education and Foundation courses. Position begins mid-August 2013.
 
Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
 

  1. Ph.D. or Ed.D.in Education is preferred, MA considered with experience.  (candidates with a Master's degree will not be eligible for term-tenure, however will be eligible for annual contract renewal based upon satisfactory performance and continued institutional need)
  2. Have a successful elementary teaching record of at least four years, and a passion for teaching, mentoring and supervising pre-service students.
  3. Commitment to prepare and engage teacher candidates to be life-long learners and leaders.
  4. Expertise in best practices (including theory, curriculum, instruction, and assessment) is required. Knowledge of INTASC standards, performance-based teacher preparation, and Iowa Core Curriculum is desired.
  5. Preference will be given to candidates with strong interpersonal skills (including strong written and oral communication skills), a history of being detail oriented, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
