Please be aware that some Google Maps and GPS systems are very wrong about Forest City! Some farm roads are not the thoroughfares that GPS imagines, and West I Street ends as it reaches the Waldorf Campus. That said, just type in your starting point for directions and maps that will get you very close.
The Winnebago County courthouse parking lot is directly across the street from Waldorf College’s Salveson Hall, and we have permission to use it for Saturday’s contest! Parking is also available in marked spaces on the street and around the courthouse square, and there is a large Waldorf College lot on G Street. Bus parking is abundant at the Hanson Field House, just down the hill (five blocks west) on G Street.
The IHSSA Waldorf Campus Map guides visitors to the various centers and buildings on campus.
The Super 8 Motel and the Knights Inn Lodge are both in Forest City, as is the Elderberry Inn Bed and Breakfast. Northwood and Clear Lake are less than 30 miles from campus. A list of regional accommodations can be found on our Area Lodgings page.
Waldorf College has excellent food and lots of choices. Warrior Crossing, right in the Atrium, will be open all day with Java City coffees, snacks, sandwiches, beverages and baked goods. We’ll also have a Library Lounge Concession Stand, open all day, with bottled beverages, snacks and baked goods. The Campus Center Dining Room on the second floor of the Campus Center will be open from 10am-3pm, and features all-you-can-eat dining with pizza, burgers, stir-fry, beverages, salads, desserts and more for just $6. It’s an exceptionally good deal!
Within five blocks (easy, flat walking distance) of the Waldorf Campus, you’ll find Hardee’s, Subway, Scoopy Doos Ice Cream and More, Sally’s Café and Sum Hing (Chinese). Local restaurants also include Shooterz Sports Bar & Grill, Taco Jerry’s/Borderline Pizza, Cabin Coffee Co. and more.
Performance areas for the contest will be located in Thorson Hall, Nilssen-Boe Science Hall, Smith Theatre and the Luise V. Hanson Library. Contest headquarters will be located in the Academic Achievement Center for Excellence, on the Atrium second floor. Results postings will be in the Atrium. The Bus Drivers’ Lounge will be located in Gatsby’s on the lower level of the Campus Center. The Saturday morning judges’ meeting and the judges’/room chairs’ luncheon will be held in the Salveson Hall Ballroom. View IHSSA Waldorf College Campus Map
Special requests regarding scheduling and performance times and handicap access should be directed to Craig Ihnen, executive director of the IHSSA. If you have a special-needs student who qualifies for the state contest, submit your request as soon as possible. All of Waldorf College’s classroom areas, the Library, Dining Hall and Gatsby’s are accessible and served by elevators. Any unforeseen accessibility issues are resolvable on-site. These issues, as well as performance conflicts, should be directed to Ken Hansen at 641-585-8223 or email@example.com.
If you have free time and want to go work out or have a swim, the Forest City YMCA is just five blocks away (adjacent to Waldorf’s Hanson Fieldhouse) and opens at 9 a.m. If you’re a member of any YMCA, bring your membership card along and swim free; otherwise, a day pass is $5.
If the weather looks dangerous or some other threat looms, see the Waldorf College Facebook page for immediate updates. Notices will also be sent to KIOW-FM 107.3 in Forest City and on KGLO-AM 1300 in Mason City. On March 10 we will activate Waldorf’s emergency notification system – 877-270-7333 – if emergencies arise.
