Biography:
Dr. Joshua Thompson is the Director of Instrumental Activities at Waldorf College, where he conducts the Waldorf Wind Symphony and is the professor for many other music education and music performance courses. He is an active conductor, soloist, and clinician, and enjoys working with all genres of music and all types and ages of musicians.

From his work as a soloist in Baroque performance practice to the premiering of brand new works (both performing and conducting), Dr. Thompson is committed to bringing inspiring performances to audiences everywhere. Having previously taught music at Wayne State College and Cornell College, Joshua was also the conductor and music director of the Eastern Iowa Brass Band, an extremely active semi-professional British-styled brass band, based out of Mt. Vernon, Iowa. As part of his doctoral dissertation, he worked closely with composer Libby Larsen to reintroduce her Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra (1988) to the world by way of interviews, editing of the score and the creation of a reduction for trumpet and piano.

Joshua has been a finalist in concerto competitions at Miami University, Bowling Green State University, and the University of Iowa, and was invited to perform as a semifinalist at the National Trumpet Competition in Washington, D.C. In Bowling Green, he was invited to perform as the trumpet soloist in Aaron Copland’s Quiet City. He has performed regularly with the Middletown Symphony Orchestra, Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Quad City Symphony Brass Quintet, Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and the “haus” German polka band at Hofbräuhaus in Newport, Kentucky.
