Biography:

Dawn Johnson is in her 30th year of service to Waldorf. She has served as past chair of the Department of Business and Economics and past chair of the Social Sciences Division.

Professor Johnson is focused on student-centered learning and creating a hands-on approach to managerial and marketing issues. She has been selected by her colleagues to receive the Regents Outstanding Faculty Member Award and by students to receive the Phi Theta Kappa Outstanding Teacher award. She currently teaches Principles of Management, Human Resource Management, Organizational Theory & Behavior, Marketing Management and Introduction to Business. She is actively involved in advising many business students throughout their academic programs at Waldorf and career development following their education at Waldorf. She values the relationship and learning that occurs outside of the classroom in these types of relationships.

As a senior faculty member, Professor Johnson has served on numerous committees including Strategic Planning, Vision Task Force, Blue Ribbon Panel, Athletic Committee, Academic Progress, BA Committee, Athletic Affiliation Task Force, Rank & Tenure Committee, and the Marketing Committee along with several other standing faculty committees. Serving as a faculty leader on these committees and task forces allows her to be an advocate for student-centered applied learning at Waldorf. She has also served on the Search Committee for the President of Waldorf College, the Academic Dean, the Vice President for Admissions and Marketing, the Dean of Students, as well as other faculty and staff searches. She, along with Professor John Robinson were instrumental in the design and implementation of the BA Business program that began in the fall of 1995.

Other work experience at Waldorf College includes two years as an admissions counselor following her BA graduation and one year serving as Interim Vice President of Student Life in 2005 and another year serving as Interim Vice President of Admissions & Financial Aid in 2008. Outside the classroom Professor Johnson has worked closely with the development of a small business startup group which assists small and mid size organizations with the development and implementation of an easy to use management system. She has developed their training tools, conducted training for their independent consultants and is currently completing their Marketing Plan and securing marketing resources for the firm.

Her primary areas of research interest include management philosophies, organizational communication, leadership, motivation and marketing strategies.
