Biography:
"Prof D" received his Master of Arts in Homeland Security with Honors from American Military University. Prior to that, he completed his Bachelor of Science in Public Health with honors at American Public University. He is also a lifetime member in several honor societies, including: Epsilon Pi Phi Emergency Management and Homeland Security Honor Society, Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences, Delta Epsilon Tau International Graduate Honor Society, Psi Chi - National Honor Society in Psychology, and Golden Key International Honor Society.

DJ's professional experience is in the fields of counterterrorism, EMS/Special Operations EMS (rescue and tactical medicine), firefighting, and healthcare/ healthcare leadership. He is a member of the International Association for Counterterrorism & Security Professionals (IACSP), International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), International Counter-Terrorism Officers Association (ICTOA), International Association of Interviewers (IAI), and the Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA).

DJ served in the United States Navy from 1991-1995 (the first Gulf war). He worked in healthcare since 1994 as an EMT, ER Technician, and as clinic/hospital executive staff, and served five years as a Medic/Technical Rescue Specialist with the Sheriff's department. He continued to serve as a medic with federal disaster medical team DMAT CA-4, as a firefighter/EMT, and as a member of the San Diego Medical Reserve Corp (MRC).

Besides teaching here at Waldorf College, DJ is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia southern University, College of Safety and Emergency Services, where he teaches several other courses in Homeland Security and Emergency Services Management. He has been the course writer for the new undergraduate Homeland Security courses Terrorism Response Operations, Homeland Security Technology, and Emergency Medical Services Management.

In addition to his primary jobs, he also serves as the Medical Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) Coordinator at the San Diego Law Enforcement Coordination Center (SD-LECC) Terrorism Unit / Regional Terrorism Threat Assessment Center (RTTAC) where he recently developed the Medical Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) program for that county, and sister county, which will bridge with our existing law enforcement and fire TLO programs. It is his hope that it will serve as a national model. Additionally, DJ is a contracted Consultant / Subject Matter Expert doing course review of new/existing FEMA/DHS training courses, serves as the Counter-Terrorism / Hospital Counter-Terrorism Advisor/Trainer for The Halo Corporation (currently working on an innovative active shooters in schools program), and regularly contributes to several peer-reviewed professional journals, newsletters, and blogs in terrorism/counterterrorism and emergency management communities.

Additional Information:
In his small amounts of free time, he likes to hike, bike, and go trail-running. He is also a Muay Thai instructor (he started the program at the University of California San Diego). He also co-hosts a show on OutdoorChannel.com with a physician buddy, boonDocs Wilderness and Travel Medicine.
