Education:
Dan Hermes earned his bachelor's degree in Fire Science Management from Southern Illinois University, an M.S. in Criminal Social Justice from Lewis University and an M.P.A. from the University of Illinois with a concentration in research. Most of his M.P.A. classes were taken at a Ph.D. level. In addition, he has more than thirty emergency services related courses completed including paramedic.

Biography:
Dan's full time employment is in emergency services. He is a fire chief with more than thirty years of service and retired as Chief in 2011. Within the fire service he specializes in dealing with firefighter deaths. He has lectured nationally on the subject and has authored an exhaustive funeral preparation and protocol guide, as well as a video. Additionally, he is a recognized expert in dealing with survivors and death benefits. Dan has published articles in several leading emergency service trade journals. Additionally, he lectures often in management, budgeting, Emergency Medical Services and risk management.
